Barry and Cristina Robertson

Red Kite Wildlife Warrior Award #3

Congratulations to Barry and Cristina Robertson for satisfying all the criteria for achieving a Red Kite accreditation. 👏

They have proven that they consistently keep conservation at the heart of their gardening philosophy.

With a mixture of mature trees, warm secure hedges,  wildflowers and low level shrubs, they allow Mother Nature to set and grow around them and the plants and trees that they have chosen themselves.

They welcome and encourage wildlife giving food and shelter in the form of undisturbed undergrowth, perfect for insects, Hedgehogs and other small mammals, more appropriate then any shop bought Hedgehog house! Their lawn is a variety of wildflowers, perfect for different pollinators and home to a colony of ground nesting bees!

Ranger CR visited their garden to approve the award.

Barry and Cristina have been clients of Redavons for a number of years. It is safe to say that every visit becomes something of an occasion! In that time we have seen their garden develop into a multi-species haven. Although Barry claims that he ‘just can’t be bothered to garden ‘ there is a clear sense of relaxed control  allowing important plants like Periwinkle and Honeysuckle to thrive without dominating the space. Perhaps Christina put it most accurately when she said  ” if I’m not using the space  why shouldnt Nature have it?”. If more people could see the logic of that the World would be all the richer.

Mindful neglect is the new conservation method
